Freedom

Formally known as “Crafty Cape” during his 7 year racing career, this gorgeous Kentucky-bred thoroughbred is our herd leader. Freedom's journey with us began at Beulah Park Racetrack on April 14, 2012, where he was abandoned by his former owner just nine days after his final race at the track.  Fortunately, a rescue network partner found him and reached out to Michele for assistance. On April 18, 2012, Freedom joined our sanctuary, marking the beginning of a new chapter in his life.

For the first time, Freedom experienced life as part of a herd. Despite the challenges of adjusting to farm life, his demeanor remained calm, knowing instinctively that he was safe here. After a year of rest from the track and time to acclimate to his new surroundings, Freedom learned he had free run of our 10-acre pasture and enjoys his home here!

Freedom suffers from arthritis and has a history of colic episodes, which he follows a special diet to manage. Today, Freedom serves as a therapy horse, playing a crucial role in our equine-assisted therapy sessions. He helps humans in their recovery journeys, specializing in teaching clients how to slow down, lower their heart rate, and practice mindfulness to reduce stress. Freedom's gentle nature and resilience make him a cherished member of our sanctuary.

Fun Facts: Freedom’s birthday is May 2, 2005 and his best friends are Princess and Sage.  He has a very important job at the farm - he is our alpha male and the leader of our herd.  Freedom protects his friends by staying grounded and extra vigilant to ensure the safety of his family.  He enjoys bran in his dinner every night and can be a bit of a messy eater!
