  • Ellie the cat

    Ellie

Ellie was 2 months old, living on the streets of downtown Akron in an abandoned office building. In July 2017, Michele safely trapped this little lady and brought her to her now forever home here at the sanctuary. She is weary of new people, but will eventually warm up to you if you take it slow. Estimated birth Spring 2017.  Thanks for supporting this once abandoned kitty.

Fun Facts: Ellie loves to play, watch the birds and the horses from the windows and is a great weather watcher too. She is a great mouser when one sneaks into our director’s house on the farm.

  • Friendly Fred

    Fred

Fred found us October 29, 2018. We were searching the woods and surrounding area for our boy Quincy, who ran away after a therapy session here: Fred jumped on Michele’s shoulder from out of nowhere, trying to get her attention! He seemed to know we needed help with Quincy’s search and he began to follow us through the woods and the cornfields looking for Quincy. Fred had an immediate sense that we were in need and broken hearted. Several days later he appeared in our barn and was sitting on our chair, just like he belonged there! Neighbors later reported that he had been hanging around begging since the summer looking for someone to open up their homes and their hearts to him. Fred quickly fit into our home at the sanctuary and worked his way into everyone's hearts! He participates in equine assisted wellness sessions.

Fun Facts:  He likes begging for snacks, especially spicy ones. He loves going for rides in the hay wheelbarrow. He loves watching TV at night and gazing outside his partylite window in his home on the farm.

  • Cinnamon

    Cinnamon

In December 2019, after the sudden death of Tuxie, Cinnamon appeared. After escaping the safe trap for nearly 3 months, we finally got her! She was estimated by our vet to be less than one year old. We had her spayed and vaccinated and she lived in Michele’s spare room for 2 months during her recovery. Although we got her acclimated to touch and play, she wasn’t happy being indoors. We released her and to this day she feeds here most every evening.  Cinni is microchipped in case anyone ever tries to take her in.

Fun Facts:  She loves to explore and visits the neighbors who all think she is hungry…she’s got everyone fooled. She's a smaller cat, but very healthy and a little spunky. Cinni always appears when we need her most, many times after the passing of our other furry friends here.

  • Piper

    Piper

Born on 6/10/19, Piper is a fun loving, goofy and very friendly Golden Retriever. She was surrendered to us after her previous family was in crisis and could no longer take care of her. Michele used to be her dog walker and developed a strong bond and connection to her. Through clicker training, Michele taught her how to more appropriately behave and basic commands. Her previous home didn’t have her on preventative treatments, and she ended up with Lyme Disease. After multiple rounds of treatments, she’s now Lyme free. Through your support all her needs are met.

Fun Facts: I love daily walks, playing with my stuffed babies, hanging out with Freddy the cat and visiting the horses here on the farm. A country gal at heart, I love to go camping, going through drive thru’s in hopes of receiving biscuits and cheesy hot dogs on the grill.
