What is V.E.T.S.?
In November 2017, Forever Amber Acres Animal Sanctuary became certified to offer Equine Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP) through the EAGALA model. Globally recognized, the EAGALA model (Equine Assisted Growth and Learning Association) is the gold standard in equine assisted therapy. This is also a unique, client-centered team approach to problem solving. Using the horse as the primary facilitator, clients successfully tackle emotional and physical challenges, along with a certified Equine Specialist and licensed Mental Health Professional. These specialists are part of the treatment team too. Our program is available to all active duty, honorably discharged veteran’s, reservists, retired, disabled veteran’s and their families. We also hope to help treat issues including substance abuse, anxiety, depression, PTSD, and veterans who need assistance transitioning from military life to civilian life, all of which can be common issues our military veteran community are dealing with.
Our program, one of the first of its kind in northeastern Ohio, was launched in May 2018. Reaching this milestone fulfills the vision our organization laid out more than 10 years ago. FAAAS’s goal is to purposefully rehabilitate our equine rescues in service to others. Just as our clients are healing, our rescues are too.
